How long do you think a sermon series should go?
I have heard guys stand up on platforms at conferences and say “3-4 weeks tops.” There are other guys who takes years to preach through entire books of the Bible.
- Does it really matter to the people who attend your church?
- How about those in the community who may attend your church? Do they need a catchy new sermon series to draw them in?
I wonder if you get completely different people in churches that have long sermon series vs. short ones. There are those people who like to follow the storyline of TV shows over the course of the year. In fact some people follow soap opera story lines for many years. Yet there are other people who prefer the 30 minute sitcom with no real connection from week to week.
I have seen churches grow using both methods. In the end it is more about finding your unique call as a preacher and church and then being faithful to execute the calling Christ lays on your life.
